Coppin State’s résumé is shaped by a couple of modest bright spots and a string of severe road defeats that leave little margin for error when the committee stacks the profile against peers. The season’s most useful wins came away at Rider and at Delaware State and demonstrate the team can close games in its league, but those moments are overwhelmed by lopsided losses on the road to VCU, to West Virginia, to Liberty and to Georgetown and by heavy setbacks at South Florida and at Maryland that underline how the team fares against stronger opposition. The gauntlet of neutral and away tests that dominated the schedule has meant few quality signature results, so the remaining slate against conference foes — including trips to Maryland Eastern Shore, Norfolk State and North Carolina Central and home chances against Howard, Morgan State and another meeting with Delaware State — represents the primary avenue to improve the résumé. To change the narrative Coppin State needs to deliver more consistent performances away from home and convert those conference opportunities into wins that erase the memory of those blowouts.
